    Google Earth restarts my puter!!!

I think I'm going to have to give up on trying to get Google Earth to work on my PC.
I'm running Kubuntu Hardy Heron and KDE3.
I can't believe that I get to this point and GE restarts my computer!!!
What next. I really want to use GE but can't.
    Any sugestions would be greatful.

      Hey snowhog,
So I tried the steps at the link you ent me to and the same thing happens. GE starts to initalize and then my system restarts. Very weird.
It might have something to do with my NVIDIA. I clicked on NVIDIA X Server Settings and got this message:You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server
So I opened Konsole put "sudo nvidia-xconfig"
Then I got this:sudo: nvidia-xconfig: command not found
      So I'm stuck again.
      Any suggestions?

Re: Google Earth restarts my puter!!!

Sounds like the Nvidia driver isn't really installed. Here is what I would do:

        1. In Konsole,
        Code:
        sudo apt-get install envyng-core
        2. Exit the desktop with Ctrl-Alt-F1, and log in.

        3. Shut down the X server with
        Code:
        sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop
        4. Run EnvyNG with
        Code:
        sudo envy -t
        5. Choose #1 "Install the Driver". When it is done, exit the script menu.

        6. Now
        Code:
        sudo nvidia-xconfig
        7. Start the X server manually with
        Code:
        sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start
        6. Now start GoogleEarth, and hopefully you'll get a different result.

          Hey dibl,
I tried these steps and this is what happened .
When I entered "sudo envy -t" the reply was "sudo:envy: command not found"
also when I pressed ctrl+alt+F7 I got NVIDIA (): AUTOINSTALL not set in its dkms.conf

Not sure what to do from here.
          Any ideas?

Does your computer randomly reboot any other times?

Re: Google Earth restarts my puter!!!

On mine, the Googleearth application needs the Nvidia driver to be properly installed. The Hardy upgrade broke my Nvidia driver installation with my GeForce 8500 GT , and the result was GoogleEarth would not work. I tried several times using different kernels , even compiled a few of my own but using " envyng -t " still would not install the Nvidia driver properly. I switched to the amd64 version rather than the 32 bit version of Kubuntu and all is well again, using "envyng -t" worked. Google Earth works again, I even picked up the ability to operate my TomTom Go920 from a VirtualBox running XP - with the 32 bit version the TomTom Home software would work but would not connect to the TomTom once it was started even though Xp appeared to see it OK.

You could try "envyng --uninstall-all" to completely remove what EnvyNG has done and then go into synaptic and make sure everything has been removed and start over. In Synaptic you right click and select completely remove anything related to the Nvidia drivers

I found that selecting recover mode in grub boot up menu and then selecting command line works best for me,

              apt-get install envyng-core
              envyng -t
              install Nvidia drivers

Mah -- I wrote it wrong. The correct command is
                Code:
                sudo envyng -t
                I apologize.
