    Keyboard doesn't work

    Hello everyone,

I've recently installed Kubuntu 8.04 with the KDe 4 environment. Everything worked fine. However, after an upgrade to the latest linux-kernel, my keyboard is working strangely:
    - after boot, you can type your password, but after login the keyboard doesn't work (also doesn't work at command line).
    - when booting in recovery mode and the command line, you can work with the keyboard. Even if you start KDE with "startx", the keyboard does work (only you get the (I guess) standard KDE in the english language and not my native language).

I've done an upgrade in the english kde, but the keyboard still doesn't work after login in the normal boot.
    Thanks for your help!

Actually. I've tried some keys, but it seems that the backspace key does function. Only the other ones don't...

I'm amused at myself, because I was trying to think of how to help you, and what you could type on the command line to bring up something that might help, and I realized you can't do that without a working keyboard. Have you tried the keyboard with another computer to eliminate the possibility of a bad keyboard? Is it a USB or PS2 keyboard?

That happened to me on one occasion. It had nothing to do with a kernel upgrade, though. What happened was that somehow the "system settings>accessibility>modifier keys" module was set to use sticky keys. As a result, every time I held down the Ctl or Shift key to select a group of items (in any program) a "helpful" message would pop up with a pair of incomprehensible choices. Apparently, I once made the wrong choice and screwed up the keyboard driver. Unchecking the "Use Sticky Keys" check box solved the problem.

That has happened to me, too. I ended up unchecking the "Use Sticky Keys" option, too, in order to solve the problem.

Or boot into an older kernel and see whether it works again. If so, make that your default.

I also had a problem with no keyboard after logging out, read a few solutions on line on another computer , through this forum, attempted to reset all keyboard options after viewing another users default options to no avail, but when I looked at the accessibility options and unchecked the use sticky keys and use slow keys options, keyboard access suddenly appeared !!!!
