    I'm Not Adept with Adept!

I'm fervently hoping to get Kubuntu working well on this old Dell laptop that I want to pass along to my granddaughter, but the frustrations keep coming. Please help me avoid giving her WinXP!

Because of the shutdown bug in 8.04, I installed 8.04.1, which eliminated the problem. But now there's a new problem.

I couldn't find Firefox with Adept, so I uncommented a couple of repositories, but still no Firefox. And no Synaptic, either, which is what I'm mostly used to using with my Xubuntu. Maybe I'm not using Adept correctly. I'm just putting in the name ("firefox"), and all the boxes are checked. But the big list only shows installed stuff, and no matter what I put in the Search field, the big list goes empty: kedit, gedit, kcontrol, joe, bluefish...

I tried unclicking all the "requested" boxes except "no changes," but that didn't do anything.

    What am I doing wrong?

Please find my /etc/apt/sources.list for reference below. Add whatever you fancy to your list, especially universe and multiverse and don't forget afterwards to run
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
Adept should now come up with firefox.

    Code:
    # deb cdrom:[Kubuntu 8.04 _Hardy Heron_ - Release i386 (20080423)]/ hardy main restricted

Thank you very much. I just renamed the original sources.list file and used yours to get Firefox. I can always go back to the original if I ever think of a reason to do so.

You may also want to consider including the medibuntu repository - a simple google will help - in case you are after dvd stuff, flashplayer and what have you...
