I'm fervently hoping to get Kubuntu working well on this old Dell laptop that I want to pass along to my granddaughter, but the frustrations keep coming. Please help me avoid giving her WinXP!
With Kubuntu 8.04, I had the shutdown bug that I could tolerate, but I wasn't about to pass it along to Kathy. I tried the fixes without success.
So I found Kubuntu 8.04.1/KDE4 and installed that. Cool look! And more importantly, the shutdown bug is gone.
When I couldn't find Firefox with Adept, I decided to edit sources.lst with "sudo kate" But sudo said there was no such program as "kate." However, entering just "kate" brought up Kate, but without the ability to do anything useful with it.
How am I going to edit the system text files if Kate won't work with sudo?
