Either way, with Nexenta I had the same problem you had with XFS...
I guess that was more like something not sustantial nor inherit to the filesystems itself, but to other small consecuences of file transactions and journal replays..
I used to attach myself to extended filesystems, though they're slow compared to others like XFS, JFS, I know that depending on the use you give it, the best or worse it would be, (i.e: ReiserFS or XFS for a partition where cache is holded since it supports smaller files and a maximum upper level layer of folders that suites cache the best) but idk, better start thinking on the movement...
