Yes Gnome apps can be run under KDE - I have run evolution myself, but my favourite mail app is Thunderbird. It has some very handy extensions, one I use a lot is KolabSync. Despite the name it doesn't require kolab what it does is store your Contacts on a nominated IMAP Folder, assuming you're using IMAP. I find it very handy to have centralised storage of my contacts. Its compatible with Kontacts Groupware mode too. I have several hundred contacts stored this way.

As regards email merges using the contacts - I'm afraid I can't help you there, never do it myself.

      Hi,
I've also started using Kmail about a month ago after using thunderbird (which I loved but then switched to Kmail with HardyH as Kmail was the basic HardyH mail program) - and not having a good experience with Kmail.

I just wondered if Kmail in KDE4 will not be upgraded to such an extent that it will be much better - it is about one month away from now from KDE4

Can anyone come back on this?

Posts #22 & #23 are somewhat relevant here, or at least offer some reading from a reliable user (rbmorse):

These are such basic functions. How could they miss them?
Thunderbird really is just a basic Outlook Express replacement... I don't think the project's intent was ever (at least for now) to be a fully functional "enterprise" app... but since it is 1000x better than Outlook Express it has gathered quite a following...

Thunderbird has a stand alone util for importing stuff, I have used it.

I like thunderbird, it's the only client I know which quickly handles the tons of spam one gets.
