KDE4.1RC1 can't cope with dual monitors

Trying out KDE4.1 RC (installed the desktop on an existing Kubuntu 8.04 KDE3 setup).

I have dual monitors, the primary is a LCD1280x1024, the second one is a composite TV running at 1024x768. Card is NVIDA 7200GS

KDe4 logs on OK and the whole LCD is used *but* the Panel and Backgound image only occupy a 1024/768 area (top left). The remaining area is little blue/white checkers. Its as if it is taking it dimensions from the second screen.

Apps when launched and full screened take up all screen area.

I've checked System Settings|Display|Screen size - it is correct (1280x1024).

If I reset xorg.conf to a std single screen display everything is ok.

KDE3 still works fine with the dual display.

This just kills me and IMHO is a downgrade in kde4. I think that dual X sessions (dual monitors) is basic support.
