OO 2.4 mail merge broken? - Solved

Tried to do a mail merge with OOo 2.4 in Kubuntu 8.04 today. View | Data Sources is no longer available from the OOo Writer menu. F4 no longer brings up the data source browser.

I checked the OpenOffice.org forum, and another user of OOo in 8.04 has the identical problem Though his post was on the OOo board for a month, no one has replied.

In my case, I was trying to do a merge from a previous document that has always worked properly before.

    So, what's up?

    Thanks.

    Frank.

You'll have to install the openoffice.org-base package for it to work.

There were still some issues with the mail merge afterwards and I have to go into Tools>Options...>Openoffice.org Base>Databases and delete the already created datasources occasionally.

    good luck

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if Bases is installed or not when I get home later today.

In the meantime, seems 2.4.1rc2 is out which may address the problem. Seems the difficulty is with OOo 2.4, and not with the Ubuntu edition of it.

I think I'll get the 2.3.1 package and stick with that until 2.4.1 is stable. I use my machines for real work.
