Installing and downloading programs..

I am very new to Kubuntu, just now installed it..
And kind of have problems to install some programs.

I need to start with programs like MSN (and I really don't understand that Kontakt, I know it works like all sort of messengers, but I don't know how to use it)..
So some program that is like MSN.
Some IRC program.
And Mozilla Firefox, I don't like this Konqurer.

Can anyone help me out a little bit, how to download and install it?

And generally how to install programs..

For msn, the program is already installed by defauly and called kopete. Kontakt is more of an outlook type email program. When you first open it you will be guided through the process of setting it up with your msn account. You will find it at kmenu>internet>kopete.
To install firefox open kmenu>system>adept manager. Then use the search to find firefox, select it and choose 'request install'. Now just click the 'apply changes' button at the top. Done.
Adept is a package manager that will allow you to install any application or package in the repositories with a single click. Probably the biggest difference to windows and fantastic. It will also allow you to install an irc program but I just don't know the name of one myself.

Thanks a lot. I finally managed to work with Adept.. thanks to these tutorials.

I got myself, aMSN, XChat, and Firefox 2. Thats all I need for now. And there plenty of others program, which is amazing that I don't have to search for each one.
