Can't resume from hibernation anymore

I can hibernate/shutdown fine but when trying to resume kubuntu the boot progress bar doesn't even get past the back-and-forth stage then locks up and the only way to fix the problem is to hit the reset button and reboot normally

I think a recent update may have caused this.. Can anyone help?

I just had the brilliant idea of turning the splash screen off; now I find that kubuntu hangs here (photo attached)

I have the same problem but have had it since the upgrade to Hardy. It worked fine previously.

It was working fine on a clean install of hardy..
