    Bug in Thunderbird won't allow Firefox to open https links

    I just found out that for some reason on my new install, when someone sends me a https (encrypted links) link, it won't automatically open up firefox and load that link for me like it will if it's a regular http:// link.

    To fix this, I went to ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/[profile_dir]/prefs.js
    and added in this line
    user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https", "/usr/bin/firefox");

    Good 'tip' for those using FF. Thank you.

      Re: Bug in Thunderbird won't allow Firefox to open https links (OR http either)

      I found essentially the same fix in the Ubuntu forums, but tuned more to my exact problem (-no http links at all. Note the small differences, same fix.

      [Thunderbird] Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced/General -> Config Editor
      -> RightClick somewhere in the list [preferably amoung the "network protocols" entries
      -> New -> String.. now type..
      network.protocol-handler.app.http
      <OK>
      now type the name of your browser..
      firefox
      <OK>

      I added the second string, for https, assuming I probably needed it. Hadn't noticed (yet) that THAT function was missing...

        Hey Ol' Bab, I was gonna do as you suggested but don't have a "config editor" where you have one or anywhere else that I could find. I looked a couple times. > Using FF-3.0... Any ideas? Thanx

          I have it, though I didn't use this method to fix mine (thanks for posting that by the way, olbab
          Here's a screenshot of the option in Thunderbird. Never noticed it before though, so maybe it's new?

          Anyhow if you still can't find it or it isn't there, you can add it in using this Thunderbird add-on.

            No wonder I couldn't find it, I was looking in Firefox. I have it in T-Bird now,
