Konqueror & Youtube - Audio but no video. iPlayer & Google video ok.

As the subject says. Bizarrely, I get perfectly good youtube flash video via the Google video site but just the grey box and sound from youtube.com.
    The BBC iPlayer works fine.

    Go figure anybody?

See Re: Konqueror: Flash player doesn't run. as the likely cause and solution.

Thanks for responding but I'm not sure you bothered to read what I wrote. Perhaps I should also have pointed out that the Adobe test page runs fine as well. The question is: what's different about youtube.com?

There shouldn't be any difference really. Maybe try deleting your youtube cookies? Not sure how this would help but...
Or maybe try out youtube in firefox?

          My point precisely.

Nor do I & it doesn't but thanks for the idea - worth a try.

That's fine too but beside the point & perhaps just a bit defeatist ?

As well as the defeatist aspect I was also thinking that if youtube works in firefox then that gives you a little more info on whats happening.

Additionally, maybe you could try installing gnash. It's supposed to be capable of handling youtube nowadays.

Not, it seems, for me. In any case it breaks iPlayer as does libflash etc. I'm afraid only the real thing is anywhere near man enough for the job.
I'm not even sure whether this is a konq issue or within nspluginviewer (itself a dubious bit of a hack, which tries to eat up my cpu cycles).
If it really gets to me, maybe I'll take the issue upstream.

                did you solve this?

I have the same problem just did a fresh kubuntu install, added flashplugin-nonfree..

Funny as when I go to www.youtube.com I have the problem you do, but youtube videos embedded into other sites tend to work.. This is with Konq 3.5.9.. Everything through firefox works OK..

                  Google found this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=862145

                  Have you got kubuntu-restricted-extras installed?

thanks, but that is already installed...

I tried gnash too, and actually got a bit better, i.e. got video for a second but my eeepc really struggles with gnash (extremely slow)..

as i said the strange part is I can watch youtube videos embedded on new sites or in forums, it is just the youtube website itself I have trouble with...

might do another fresh install tonight, but delete all my config settings in home first, maybe some other setting from when I tries ubuntu was stuffing it up..
