    8.04 64bit Sensors problem

I have a q9300, and sensors-detect version from the base install is very outdated, so it doesn't find the core temps. According to the lm-sensors site they have it in lm-sensors now and the new sensors-detect works to detecting it. However, the old module with the current x64bit, won't work with it.

    2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I see mention online of a 2.6.25 kernel, but it doesn't show up in upgrades.

If I want the newest version of lm-sensors and libsensor* to work will I need to wait till this comes out or
is there an EASY way to add it, or would I be better off compiling a kernel?

    Re: 8.04 64bit Sensors problem

My X6800 is detected with sensors-detect, and both CPU core temps are shown in my gkrellm monitor. But there are other sensors on my motherboard, that lm-sensors doesn't pick up, such as the fan rpm.

Why don't you just mark lm-sensors for reinstallation with Adept Manager, and then run sensors-detect again? It should overwrite the prior /etc/modules line, or else add a new one below it, if it needs to be different.

This is all I ever get when trying to get coretemp running.

FATAL: Error inserting coretemp (/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/drivers/hwmon/coretemp.ko): No such device

Hmmm -- I never needed to touch coretemp -- it was automatically inserted by sensors-detect, I guess. But sensors-detect found my CPU core temps, and my GPU core temp. It didn't find the motherboard temp sensor, or the fans. I dunno what the problem with it running on your motherboard is -- what is the brand and model of the mobo?

Here's my etc/module info, in case it's of any use:

        Code:
        # /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
        #
        # This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
        # at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.

          Re: 8.04 64bit Sensors problem

Problem is lm-sensors is out of date on the 8.04 64bit install. Doesn't detect the new 45mn intel quad core cpu core sensors, due to the labeling of Unknown CPU. The newest version will, but it isn't in any packages yet.

I can either wait till it is updated or recompile a new kernel with the up to date lm sensors.
