"Install/remove software" applet in Kubuntu 8.04 not working

In KDE menu, I click "Install/remove software". This app appears in taskbar, stays there for about 30 seconds and disappears. Nothing else happens. How do I make it work?
P.S. Its a fresh installation, nothing has been touched yet.

    Yep, that's annoying.

It would be better to use the Adept Manager to do your package installation, anyway. Alt-F2 "kdesu adept-manager" without the quote marks. Give your Super User password, and it should open Adept for you.

Or, right-click your KDE3.5 panel, choose "add application" then browse to System>Adept Manager and choose that, to put the icon on your panel, for easy access next time.

Thanks, Adept is finally OK (however, I don't get what actually bought it to life).
P.S. Hm, I really didn't expect Kubuntu DVD to have that few packages.
