SOLVED: Logout or Shutdown hangs (KDE 3)

If I logout or shutdown from a KDE session the screen just goes black.

If I Ctrl-Alt-BkSpc the I get the login screen if logging out otherwise just the boot screen.

A "sudo shutdown -h now" works fine.

Thanks, unfortunately that didn't make any difference.

I've seen reports of people experiencing this problem with the ATI fglrx driver but I'm running NVidia.

Mine was worst. The whole screen hanged. Nothing is able to move. Not the mouse. The Cap lock & Scroll lock light blinks. Hard power shutdown couldn't shut the machine down. I had to un-plug the power supplier and do a hard reboot. Need help here.

            Yup
            Code:
            sudo chown -R lindsay:lindsay /home/lindsay
            Ran with no errors.

Alas, that did not work either

However I think I found it - noticed the keytouch daemon was sitting at 6% CPU and so removed that. I now can logout/reboot/shutdown via the KDE menus. It still seems to take longer than it used - there's a good 10-20 seconds of black screen before it moves on, but definitely working.

                  Thanks - Lindsay

Just wondering how you knew the keytouch daemon was at 6% if your screen was blacked out. I also have a logout problem (though shutdown and restart work fine), so I'm wondering how to narrow down the culprit.

well after a mess-up with my applets position - i accidently remove the kmenu and so had to remove everything else to just get it back in its position - oh wait...loll i forgot how to do that - anyway I just re-did the positions,, etc..and then noticed a ghost mixer on my bottom tray so I removed it and the 10-s or so delay went down.

I also noticed that with the update or something I can't re-add some the of the apps i used to have.

I switched to the text console (Ctrl-Alt-F1)

how do you remove the keytouch daemon?
I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.
