    Mystery jump in .strigi/clucene size

Hey folks. Over the last few days I have seen my home folder swell from 6 gigs to over 26 gigs. I got a "less than 4% hard disk space left" error message in kde, so I started trying to diagnose the problem.

Turns out that .strigi/clucene is the 25 gig winner.

So, what does this directory contain, and why is it this big? I have yet to use strigi...

Strigi indexes your files for search, etc. I imagine it's safe to delete the index....but I don't really know. You could also hit Ctrl-Esc and kill the strigi daemon if it's running. That won't free up the disk space, though, just prevent it from indexing any more. The strigi daemon would probably restart the next time you logged in, though.

I since went in and deleted the contents of /home/foo/.strigi/clucene and everything seems fine. Oh - I also removed the strigi search applet from my panel (I never used the damn thing anyway). I'm not sure the applet was the cause of the problem, but so far, I haven't had any problems.

Haven't tried using .strigi yet, though...

If you don't use Strigi, it should be safe to <Shift><Del> to delete the directory completely.

I always remove the nasty little thing anyway, it's too much of a resource hog.
