Weird sound issue with SDL games

After upgrading my home machine to hardy (it started as feisty, I think, then upgraded through gutsy), I have a weird issue with the music on several games.

The music sounds weird, notes are dropping out. It's almost as if only one or two notes can play at once. Two games affected are extreme tux racer and pingus.

I did some poking around, and it appears both games use ".it" files (Impulse tracker) for music. I installed cheesetracker from the repos and played back the files with it, and they play normally. But in the games the sound is weird.

I believe both use SDL, which means (I think) mikmod libraries for tracker file playback, but I'm not sure, and there don't seem to be any bugs filed on mikmod or sdl-mixer related to this. Anyone else having issues with the music playback on those games, or is it just me?

Can anyone at least tell me that you have these games installed and the music sounds right?
