Install WINE in HH KDE4

I've tried to install Wine but seems to have alot of problems. First installed useing adept but it will not run. Purged wine from the system and installed in CLI and still no joy. Seems the version installed is borked so followed instructions from here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...72#post4383272 but i cannot install libldaph2 'cos adept says "Package libldap2 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
slapd libldap-2.4-2
Browsed to wine website and followed their instructions http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb and it installs a later version of wine than in adept but still it cannot run. All i get is this message preloader:
Warning: failed to reserve range 00000000-60000000
Usage: wine PROGRAM [ARGUMENTS...] Run the specified program
wine --help Display this help and exit
wine --version Output version information and exit.
wine version installed is wine-0.9.59.
So anybody running HH kde4 successfully installed wine?

Is that the deb with version 0.9.55. Tried that with Gdebi but it cannot install because its missing libldap2 and adept cannot install libldap2 'cos it's obsolete, unavailable and has been replaced with slapd libldap-2.4-2. Ok so i installed slapd as suggested by adept but and reinstalled version 0.9.59 but still it cannot run. And what does "Warning: failed to reserve range 00000000-60000000" mean.

i am testing kubuntu intrepid w/ kde4 & instead of installing the old version of wine from the ubuntu repos, i installed the 1.0-rc1 from the winehq site/repo. i haven't really tested it yet though...
it installs fine though.

when I do

wine --version

I get

preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00000000-60000000
wine-0.9.59

when I try to start notepad, everything works perfectly, steam also runs perfectly (orangebox)

I upgraded from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 and haven't had any troubles.

From what you paste here, I can tell you that Wine is indeed installed. A quick Google for the error message you see shows that it's a known bug due to changes in Hardy:

And the workaround that is suggested there:

sudo sysctl -w vm.mmap_min_addr=0

Thanks for that. I installed the RC1 and that one works except not listed under the kmenu.

wine 1.0-rc1 has been pushed to the ubuntu repo. (in intrepid at least).

Sorry, should be more thorough in checking before posting. Actually wine is listed under kmenu/Applications/Lost & Found.
