Selected checkboxes don't render?

I have this problem across multiple applications, kde, gnome, firefox, settings manager - lots of apps. Checkboxes and radio buttons are displayed, with the check marks or black dots as appropriate. But then when I click it (to check or uncheck), the checkbox (or radio option button) disappears - it's replaced with just some blank space. How much blank space depends on the app - for compiz settings manager, it's a long narrow block, but mostly the space is slightly larger than the checkbox or radio button. As soon as I click on something else, the checkbox or radio button will render normally and the correct settings are kept. So the problem is only when the control is selected.

I had Gutsy on this system and upgraded to Hardy. It's an AMD64. Any ideas?

I have the same in compiz manager but nowhere else.

Same problem as teunis and jeromio here, using compiz.

I tried to change the theme, assuming something was wrong with the icons of the theme, but kde-windows-decorator and systemsettings crashed when I applid a new theme, and all the borders of the windows disappeared.

Any clue?

Mines doing the same thing. Not a huge problem, but annoying. It's not the Intel video, because my video is Nvidia.

I now have the same in firefox so I guess it's systemwide.
It's annoying but it does not stop the show. Mostly if you set a checkbox set, you can't see that right away, but if I click on something else in such a dialog suddenly the check is visible.

I'm seeing in firefox, but not the KDE 3.5.9 dialogs.

Nvidia drivers.

I have the same problem, HH with Nvidia glx-new drivers installed, all check boxes show blank space when used. Also some text seems to write on top of previous text, so the status bar from Ktorrent looks like a giant car crash of letters ;-) Weird, and resizing the window cleans things up most of the times. I hope they fix this, but the pro of compiz is stil a lot stronger then the minus atm.

I see this issue goes all the way back to May. Its a common issue, along with errant selection behaviour (triple click a line does not often). This is the type of thing that should be considered a major bug; as it is the type of thing which gives new users a bad impression of the O/S.
Its also been reported in bugs since about that time.

I found the solutionto this on another site sometime ago,butI forgot we had thisthread opne, and did not post it. Sorry.

System Settings>Appearance>GTKStyles and Fonts. Select "Use Another Style" and select QTCurve.

Thanks, but it gets worse. The style was QTCurve, I tried changing the checkbox color to custom/black and it crashed KDE settings.

When it did not crash settings any change to QTCurve resulted in all windows losing their title bar until I did a restart-X.
If it was only myself having these problems then NP but its fairly clear that there are a plethora of users who have exactly the same issues by forum posts.

Sorry it did not help. It worked for me on two different computers.

I have lived with this problem for quite some time now thinking it was just my system. Now, surprised to see that it is so widespread, I wonder if it is a bug that should be reported. If not, maybe someone can come up with a solution. I have it while running both KDE 3.5 and KDE 4.1.1. I am running Nvidia drivers. All updates applied to Hardy 8.04.

Yea, I'm pretty sure its been reported as a bug but will check when I got time. It can be a real problem eg I have been bidding on an auction, and the checkbox does a specific job. When clicked, and the check does not apply as it should, then it costs more! Very, very sad

Shortly after my post to this thread I took an update. Now I notice checkboxes rendering in Gmail. I have not checked other apps. Maybe it has been fixed?

Nope - changing the scheme does not effect either.
