KDE 4 - Black Screen when using Desktop Effects (composting = true)

Is there any fix for this? I can't use any desktop fx, because I have to turn off composting in the ~/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc

I had a work around, but don't remember what it was...I sold my desktop, and ended up with a laptop, and hardware wasn't 100% supported, and I didn't want to mess with wireless, so right now I am on Vista...
