qtparted won't start

Hi, having trouble with qtparted. When I launch it from the menu the eggtimer appears in the bottom panel but it will not launch and eventually disappears. Adept manager shows that I have everything necessary installed.

try launching it from the terminal and paste any output of errors if any.

It will launch OK from the terminal with the sudo command - but closes when it tries to examine one of the discs. I installed Kubuntu from within Windows - maybe this has something to do with it.
