Dolphin is terrible, Why is it the default in KDE4?

    I have many questions.

    - Why does Dolphin exist? Konqueror provides 100% of its functionality, plus way more.
    - Why is Dolphin terrible at the one function it is purportedly designed for: browsing files and folders? It is clunky, awkward, and difficult to use, especially when compared to Konqueror.
    - Why is Dolphin the default in Kubuntu/KDE4 for browsing files? Even to the point of being launched when I click a folder within Konqueror?
    - Why is Dolphin a dependency package for kde4-core and kdebase-kde4? I don't want it on my system, so to remove it I have to go thru monumental hoops. Foul.

Not many fans of Dolphin since Gutsy but KDE like it for some reason. I've learnt to live with it's quirkiness. You can remove it and have only Konqueror as this post http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3090092.0

Dolphin has tabs in KDE 4.1 that will be a huge improvement. http://polishlinux.org/kde/kde-4-rev...k-in-progress/

Yea that would be like putting earrings on a pig. I saw the "work-in-progress" link. Not impressed. Eye candy is useless. It fills up my screen space with crap I don't need or want. Not everybody has 500gigs of porn images they need to keep track of. What do you think the nice looking file previews are for. Dolphin really sucks and looks like it just going to get worse. Whats the url to complain to KDE about it.

You are aware, that you can change the setting that makes Dolphin the default? All one has to do is to open Konqueror, click on:

Settings > Configure Konqueror > File Associations

Under Know Types click on inode > directory

In General > Application Preference Order click on Dolphin and click Move Down

            Under inode click on system_directory

In General > Application Preference Order click on Dolphin and click Move Down

Click on Apply. That's it. Restart with Ctrl+Alt+BkSp and log in. Dolphin will no longer be the default file manager.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

I don't like Dolphin too, I will keep it only if it can do the simplest thing - to show hidden files as long as I want it to, but it keep resetting to not show, I've to set it again and again. To make Konqueror the default simply remove Dolphin will do !!
