    Audacity

After upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04 my version of Audacity didn't work for me anymore. It would load a file but I got a problem when I wanted to playback.
So after doing some searching on the great big internet, I found the answer.
Go to this page (http://xubuntu.wordpress.com/2008/04...hardy-upgrade/) and I hope this helps for you too.
It basically tells you to uninstall JackD.

I also noticed that Audacity stopped playing back sound after the upgrade. However, the suggestion in the page to which you linked did not help me. I didn't have jack installed - no jackd.

So, not sure why audacity is not working...?

Sorry to hear that, but what kind of message did you get from audacity when you wanted to play something?

        Re: Audacity

I had a ton of problems with Audacity in Hardy. I actually had to enable both my sound cards to get it working properly. Audacity uses ALSA very well, and I suggest going that route with it if you can, just for simplicity's sake.

JACK is awesome and all.. but it just makes problem solving all that much harder.

I have onboard sound, and a pro soundcard. Once I enabled my onboard sound that solved all my problems.

Well, it works in KDE4 after a reboot. Very odd. I haven't tried in KDE3 yet (it was failing to produce sound in both KDE3 and KDE4 before the reboot).

            Ah!

You didn't leave a Windows disk near your computer over night did you? That bugger will try anything to infiltrate.. don't trust it!!

Glad it's working for you now!!
