    HELP ME!!!! Virtual Box Issue

I just upgraded, but I get the following error on my Virtual Box. I need VB to run an estimating program at work.

"VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Please install the virtualbox-ose-modules package for your kernel, e.g. virtualbox-ose-modules-generic..
    VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).

    Result Code:
    0x80004005
    Component:
    Console
    Interface:
    IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}"

Anyway to fix this without damaging my windows 2000 virtual machine?

Did you add yourself to the vbox group again?

      Re: Virtual Box Issue

Not entirely sure, but it appears I am part of that group. Durring the upgrade, the installer asked me if I wanted to upgrade VirtualBox, and I said yes. It appears to be there, but doesn't appear to be loading properly. I am new to Linux, so I have to say I'm not 100% sure I am part of the upgraded install, even though the little check box is marked for VirtualBox. Not sure what to do. I really don't want to reload the program from scratch, and reinstall w2k, because everything still seems to be there.

I think you need to do what the error message is telling you (though necessarily in a clear way):
make sure you also have the virtualbox-ose-modules-generic package installed as well, this package contains the kernel driver for Vbox and is kernel version-specific/ It doesn't look like it upgraded. You might also need to install virtualbox-ose-guest-utils for more features/functionality.

Darn! That seems to be the general consensus. Hope I don't loose my W2K macine in the process...

          Thanks!

That was incredibly easy, and everything remained intact. I used the adept thingy, and it removed the old, upgraded to the new, and everything fired up as before. Thanks!

Re: HELP ME!!!! Virtual Box Issue

I am sorry, I forgot to mention that the virtual machines you create are stored separately , usually in you home directory, so you always have them available, and are easily backed up or moved to a different machine, so an upgrade wouldn't even touch your existing VMs

Good to hear it all turned out well for you!
