Hardy Heron? no, better call it Hardly Moving

I installed this sys because it would support my new mobo ga-ma78gm-s2h and was greatly surprised to find that its a dog.
Running AVIDEMUX on old mobo with fedora 8 70-80 FPS, on winxp new mobo 70-80 FPS, on Hardly Moving mew mobo 30-35 FPS.

    What Gives??

    Regards

I have the Ga-73pvm-s2h with the Nvidia chipset and I've installed KDE 4.0 remix. I could not get the live cd to work on it but once installed (alternate iso) works very well. just need more time to familiarise myself with the desktop.

I kept away from NVIDIA after the video broke on the old mobo, something to do with a kernel conflict, this mobo has good graphics and the new ATI drivers work great and I expect to see better things in the future from amd/ati, I hope.

I had great hopes for this release of KUBUNTU but the more I work with it, the less it gets. It wasn't too bad when newly installed, adept was broken and that I had bugger all apps with no way to add them or that java does not want to work, or even that the only sound I have is the echo of my swearing bouncing of the monitor, or the fact that this easy to use KUBUNTU did not load the correct drivers for this VID card and I had to go and get it, nor did it ask me if I wanted to load the codecs to allow me to play dvds, but given that now I have loaded every restricted driver, support software and replacement apps that I could find, all by hand and I don't know how an ordinary user would do it?, how is it that the most important multimeadia application in linux, MPLAYER does not play anything? without this app this system is only good for browsing the net, oh, providing that you don't want to stream a movie.

Was this thing even tested? and if this sys works for some and not for others what good is that?

      regards

Ok, the final indignation, the system does not shut-down clean, it goes to black screen.

But I can report that I have solved all my problems with software, I now have sound, good graphics, can manipulate any movie files. Internet works great as do streaming movies and add remove software, well, adds and removes software, no bugs. All I had to do was to ditch the final release of KUBUNTU and load the preview release of Fedora 9. Even though fedora clearly state that this is not a production release and should not be relied upon, it is rock solid and its still not finished. Now, fedora is still not the system that I would use, even though it is good it is still not as good as suse.

Just a quick word about this mobo ga-ma78gm-s2h, the frame rate on avidemux is still 30 - 35, so I suspect its the mobo and linux. If your thinking of buying one and running Linux don't just yet, its too new.
