    shortcuts and volume in kde4

Hi i have been playing around with the kde4 desktop on the live cd and my laptop has special buttons at the top for vol up/down mute screen brightness, none seem to work. Is there anyway to fix that, the volume controls work perfect in 7.10 kde3.
Also in kde3 i have the taskbar with shortcuts to certain things like firefox , ie a little firefox picture at the bottom click it to get firefox, all kde4 want to do is add a widget why no shortcuts - or am i just ignorant of what a widgwet actually is?

    Thanks

Re: shortcuts and volume in kde4

I have been using Hardy KDE4 for a while so I am not for sure if this has changed or not, but I ended up having to put the shortcuts into System Settings. If you go into System Settings and selected Keyboard & Mouse and select the Keyboard Shortcuts icon the window to the right should have a KDE Component option. Select kmix and you should get a list of shortcuts for your speakers. I have mine set for the front speakers. You just double click the item and then you should be able to set your volume buttons there.

As for creating shortcuts, if you want them on the panel, find Firefox in the menu and right click on the item. You should get an option to Add to Panel.
