VMware on Kubuntu 08/04 (kernel updates)

    Hi all:

I just read the announcement on LWN.net about the latest release. I will upgrade this laptop and my Xwifes desktop. She needs VMware to run her finance software. The only downside we had with Dapper was everytime a replacement security kernel was released, her VMware would stop working. Does anyone know of a way to make Kubuntu/VMware aware of each other? It would be so nice not to have to run the VM-installer each update.

Thank you all for any help and insight.

    regards,

First of all you don't have to rerun vmware install aftre a kernel update/grade.
    Just do:
    Code:
    sudo /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl
Now for vmware on Hardy. As it has a newer kernel you will have to use a patch:

    I hope that helps

Thanks for the reply and link.

I should have been more specific in my post. Didn't have to actually reinstall vmware, but had to return the install script each kernel upgrade/update.

Looks like this will continue to be an issue for this release too. . .

Hopefully, Intuit (which isn't very) will release a native version and wouldn't require the middlemalware.

      Thanks again for info/help!
