    KDE4 Remix vs regular 8.04

I think I'm going to do a clean install of my laptop when 8.04 is released. I like KDE4 but I'm not ready to use it full time yet. If I install the regular 8.04 distro (with KDE 3.5.9) and then install KDE4, will I get all the same updates for KDE4 that the remix CD gets?

In a word: yes. I have seen some small differences but they are basically the same

There have been many posts about problems for folks trying to run both KDE3.5 and KDE4 side by side -- you might want to think about setting up a separate test system to play with KDE4, rather than try to have both on the same system.

One of the problems is that it's entirely possible that if they break KDE4 you might not be able to get into KDE3 at all either. That happened to me.

Why not give KDE3 a try for a week or so and see if you miss 4. If you do miss 4 then pack up and move over to it. If you don't miss it then you're gonna be a happy camper in 3 for the foreseeable future.

In my experience I have not encountered those issues, well not lately and am running kde4 HH almost 95% of the time.

I do have a separate install kde4 beta HH for the final release of kubuntu kde4 (September? ) but I have not had an issue with running kde4 / kde3 in HH parallel.

Except for a few bumps that were strictly my fault

Dible and bonho are of course right dependind on how much fun you want to have

I agree with Dibl here. I have KDE4 running on the same install as KDE3.5.9 and I have experienced a few odd occurrences. If you have the room on your Hard Drive, I would install them separate and not share any /Home directories, that is where the issues arise (at least for me).
