    Log in problems on KDE4

I have Kubuntu kde 4 installed works ok, but when i boot up i get a the log in screen and then all i get is a black desktop ( no icons nothing ) just a mouse, if i hold ctrl+alt+del and wait i get the log out window i then click cancel and its back to normal desktop - how do i fix the desktop log in?
When i installed i changed the adept repo from Ireland to Main and the first update asked me to pick either kdm or kdm-kde4 i picked kdm.
    If that makes any difference.
    Thanks:<br />Using a Toshiba A300-21H ,3GB ram,Intel Core2Duo 2Ghz,Mobile Intel® GMA 4500MHD,intel wifi link 5100. Tux wants you!

You might need to install kdm-kde4 if it is not installed.

Then boot Recovery Mode, log in, and issue
    Code:
    sudo /etc/init.d/kdm-kde4 start

and maybe see it work right.

I had a similar problem after a reinstall.

If dibl's solution doesn't work, you might want to try logging into the console instead of KDE and:

      Code:
      cd ~
      mv .kde4 .kde4.bak
Log out and log back in and you should be good.
