New kernel, new compiz packages, all hanging together!

So, tonight's gifts from Adept Updater included a new kernel and new compiz packages.
    Code:
    dibl@cville:~$ uname -a
    Linux cville 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux
All installed with no problems noted. Rebooted the system, noticed for the second time that the Nvidia driver was not rendered inoperable -- it must be the new Envy NG that preserves the driver installation. So the only thing I need to reconfigure is VMWare Player.

Also saw updates of every compiz package, I believe (I didn't count them, but it looked like the whole suite): So, how does Compiz work?

Intersting - my /boot/grub/menu.lst wasn't updated with the new kernel stanzas. No big deal, as I just added them and rebooted. Don't know why they weren't added. Hmmm.

        Do the
        groot=
statement(s) point at the partition where the Automagic kernels are located?
If there's a separate boot partition (a real one, containing the kernel files), in the controlling menu.lst, "groot=" must point at the boot partition.

          ## default grub root device
          ## e.g. groot=(hd0,0)
          # groot=(hd0,2)

          ## should update-grub create alternative automagic boot options
          ## e.g. alternative=true
          ## alternative=false
          # alternative=true
I've made no changes to the stanzas above since installing HH.

Hah - I just realized mine does not! No wonder I always have to fix the new menu.lst file, and change (hd0,1) to (hd1,1).

            Thanks Mike!

NO network connection with the new kernel and it will not accept manual activation.

My upgrade failed to boot till I did a 2nd dist-upgrade, I now have proper Compiz in KDE4 A wireless LED that has never worked before Sound going. I guess you could say I've hit the jackpot 8)

Can I have some of that!

Really, that's great to hear. I'm actually waiting until the final release before migrating to KDE4. Still testing from a 7.10 install, but love it. Already have my Home directory set for the move!

                    Good for you

I did that as well, a few more upgrades but still no network.
