    [solved] Installing from Debian Backports

    I came across this today:
    http://www.howtoforge.com/installing...on-debian-etch

    The product:
    http://www.openbravo.com/

This would be perfect for a client of mine I am trying to get to switch over to Kubuntu.

Yet, I have never installed anything from debian backports before.

Can anyone give me (us) his/her experiences on doing this.

Are there any risks of borking Kubuntu?

    Re: Installing from Debian Backports

Do you need Debian etch backports ?

I think ( ?) that: From Lenny -> Etch backports and from Lenny -> Hardy.

    Link:
    Debian wiki

    Ubuntu Packages tells:
    Package postgresql-8.2

    * hardy (misc): object-relational SQL database, version 8.2 server

    Package sun-java6-jdk

    * hardy (devel): Sun Java(TM) Development Kit (JDK) 6 [multiverse].

    Package tomcat5.5

    * hardy (web): Servlet and JSP engine [universe]

    Package tomcat5.5-admin

    * hardy (web): Java Servlet engine -- admin & manager web interfaces [universe]

    Package tomcat5.5-webapps

    * hardy (web): Java Servlet engine -- documentation and example web applications [universe]
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?
    1. Thread: Please explain how to access old kubuntu forum posts
    2. Thread: Lost Information

        Re: Installing from Debian Backports

Okay, this is not going to well.

I have a long list of errors from using the instructions on the link above.

I will list them if needed it is a long list.

But when running the openbravo install wizard it asks me for the postition of ant, tomcat, java, and postresql. It assumes /usr/local resp. /usr for java.
But ant, and tomcat riside in /usr/share.
So far so good. I cannot for the life of me find the executable for postresql though.

It is not in /usr/share/postresql/8.2 and I wouldn't know where else to look.

Doing a search gives all kind of folders /usr, /var, /etc, etc but I can't find an executable.

        Any one?

Any ideas where Kubuntu puts this damn thing

        Edit:
        Found it: /usr/lib/postgresql/8.2/bin

        took a while

I'll test this little baby and write a how-to for those interested.

        Again thank you Rog
