Latest kernel (2.6.24 -12) upgrade hosed my system

A couple of days ago I executed the most recent update and the upgrade to kernel 2.6.24 -12.

The kernel upgrade exited with an error (which did not stay on the screen). Thereafter I could not start my computer at all.

This problem also affected my installation of GG on a separate drive.

I had to re-install both operating systems on their respective drives in order to use the computer again.

Now there is a reminder to upgrade to 2.6.24-12 displayed at all times.
Question: Did anyone lese have a botched upgrade to 2.6.24 - 12 or was this a problem confined to my system?
Is it safe to upgrade to this kernel version or would it be wiser to wait for the next kernel upgrade?

After going through a re-install and data retrieval I am not interested in another round of re-installations.

I was able to install the new kernel just fine (although that kernel version messed up the virtual terminals on my kubuntu machine, so I'm still using -11).

Do you have a separate /boot partition for your kernels that may have ran out of space during the upgrade? Or do you remember what kind of error you got?

Possibly, I believe the error message said something about a 'lib' not completely installed.

Looks like I better stay with version 11 until 13 comes out.
