Re: 8.04 kde4 install; get login screen, but bails back to login

Just so you know, this problem *appears* to be fixed in Kubuntu with KDE4.1

On the same PC as last time, I decided to do a reinstall of Kubuntu 8.04.1 to see if this problem had been fixed yet. It wasn't

BUT that only came with KDE4, and as you may know we have KDE4.1 now. So after installing the update following the instructions on kubuntu.org I now have a working system on my VIA Chrome 9 which for so long did not work.

Maybe this will be of help to the others who were having the same problem, if you have not already come up with a solution.

Suddenly, my KDE4 installation started exhibiting this same behavior (and this is on 8.10!).

The only thing I've changed is that I updated my video driver. Before I had been using the default (generic) driver. I've since changed to the driver for my on-board graphics (Intel 815). That's all I can think of that has changed.

I suppose I can change the driver back, but am in hopes that eventually KDE will fix this. Until then, I'm still using 3.5.9 and it seems to work fine with the changed video driver.

I distrust morning people, largely because I suspect them of getting together early one day while the rest of us were asleep and setting up the rules of civilization.

Have you tried updating KDE to 4.1??

Sorry, I was using 4.1. I forgot to mention that. And I'm on 8.04, don't know where the "8.10" came from. But it was late....

I guess you answered your own question anyway - if the problem happened straight after changing drivers then that is likely the problem. Go back to the old one and I guess you'll just have to wait until the proper one works
