I'm using Firefox 3.0b4 in Hardy with the latest updates. When I click on any "mailto:" link on the Web, Firefox complains that there is no configured application for this protocol. And when I look in Preferences-->Preferred-->Applications there are no applications at all. The help files in Firefox explain how to change the configured applications, but there is nothing to tell you how to add them. I did notice that I got some errors on the mime types when I did some of the Hardy upgrades. Could this be the cause? I asked some of the same questions on the Mozillazine forums and nobody there could make a guess other than a problem with the system mime types.

Re: Firefox has no applications ion Preferred-->Applications
I found a workaround for this problem. If you have Greasemonkey installed, there is a script called Mailto 2 Webmail that will enable Gmail or other Webmail sites for your mailto: links. You can get it here:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1
Works just fine.
