KMix not working after last update SOLVED

After the most recent upgrade to kernel 2.6.24 - 12 Kmix is no longer working. Message: Mixer cannot be found.

No sound at all with 8.04 but it still works in 7.10 of course.

Anyone with a similar experience?


By the way, I have been using Kubuntu 8.04 since it came out. For the last few months it even has been my business OS (with 7,.10 as douplicate/backup). No major problems at all, except for FF. I feel good about using it as the production system.

Yep, that would be me -- all flash capability went out the window too.

I expect that the issue will be fixed -- just keep updating and re-trying the music.

A new kernel package with fixed sound drivers should be up soon. Until then, just wait it out and enjoy the smell of alpha.

I just upgraded my system from Gutsy to Hardy via apt-get. It went smoothly except for the sound problem. dmesg shows that my sound drivers had all kinds of errors loading.

I hit "ESC" at boot time and selected kernel 2.6.22-14 and sound is working. I don't know if that kernel is installed on your system, but I did have it on mine. Both kernels are titled "Ubuntu hardy", so I assume both were installed during the upgrade from gutsy to hardy.

Until then, guess I am looking for the updated kernel package as well.

quick fix here
restart kmix afterwards and you're done

With hardy on my laptop I actually DIDN'T have to compile alsa. funny how that works.

Actually, today's update to the -12 kernel has restored sound - I didn't have to copy the soundcore.ko file.

Today's update of the update fixed it. Sound is now working again.
