the location bar in the new konqueror doubles as a search bar, just need to pick a default search engine in preferences. You can add another location bar if desired to use as a search bar.
I can't find a search engine in preferences

Add me as another user which will make the switch, but not now. KDE4 has more bells and whistles, but it's not quite finished under the hood yet. I'm not in a hurry, and want it to just work and be stable. 4.1 is probably my switchover point.

It's also buggy - I've managed to crash it several times in only hours of testing, and that just doesn't happen with KDE3.

So, I'm the one guy voting for KDE3.

I think that kde4 is the best but it's not completed. There are many things to fix or make. At the moment I use both kde3 and kde4 but I prefer kde3 .

it looks like I am running kde3,
how do I get or setup kde4?

I plan on a reformat soon as I did install this on a small partition, duel boot
and I plan on going 100% on this laptop.

Download the KDE4 "remix" here and install using that, it's about halfway down the page.

                thanks, just a quick question,
is this a complete OS, or does it just update what I already have.

KDE4? Yes it is complete in the sense that it is KDE4.02 as it is now with some older 3.5.9 applications to fill in where KDE4 is lacking at the moment. KDE4 is functional and will allow you to do your work. What is won't do is allow you to do most of the customizing people are use to with KDE3. That, I think, is due when 4.1 is released mid year. I believe the LiveCD will upgrade your current install, but I haven't tried that, as I started over from ground.

The "KDE4 Remix" CD is the full OS just using KDE4 instead of KDE3. Unlike the previous "KDE4 LiveCD" that was really just the desktop of KDE4 with little to nothing working.

I can sympathize with people who tried KDE 4.0.0 and found out that it was very restricted. But KDE4 has come a long way since then (in a very short time). I really think anyone who is holding off because of what they saw in 4.0.0 should REALLY give 4.0.2 a try. Stepping back to KDE3 feels like going back to windows 98 to me now.

I really like PCLOS 2008 itteration of GNOME but even that very mature desktop doesn't do it for me like KDE4 does.

If they would get rid of Dolphin and that rediculous new KMenu there would be precious little for me to complain about. (BTW you can use the traditional menu by adding it's widget to the panel)

Ok, at first I voted for KDE3.
But I waited & saw that KDE4 is really something amazing after all.
Although I didn't install the latest version of it, but I keep tracks on their website, I can say that the screen shots are astonishing so far. (True face lifting)
And from what I've heard so far, it's more memory friendly than KDE3 (hope it's true)

So I guess am gona vote for KDE4 now. (Since they had much time for development so far)

I been using KDE3 mainly but I keep messing with KDE4 and with the speed and amount of progress being made I think I'll be more than ready to switch by 4.1.

I'd like to know if the two DE play nice together.
I've just upgraded to Kubuntu 8.04 at work, and I kept the good old KDE 3.5 just to be sure. However, KDE 4 is tempting. I'd like to give it a try in coffee pauses, provided it does not mess at all with my KDE 3.

I've read some hint this is not the case (e.g. http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3092931.0 ) - what is your experience?
