Re: KDE 4 or 3 ?
Reason for my All KDE4? Simply put, it will be the future of KDE and Kubuntu and what better way to learn it than at "birth". Sure there will be some annoyances, but in time they will be solved while in the mean time I learned how it functions on the lower levels while trying to use it before it is solved. (Long winded there I know :P).

Re: KDE 4 or 3 ?
After shifting the laptop to exclusive KDE4, KDE3 on the desktop seems weird. More precisely, the things I have modified over the years make it seem patched together or maybe "quilted". (Those of you who have seen quilts will hopefully understand my meaning here.) KDE4 on the other hand looks awesome. Dark themes actually work!

Re: KDE 4 or 3 ?
KDE4 is sorely lacking in features and will not be equal to KDE3 by the time of the 8.04 release. I have it installed as an alternate DM and try it every few weeks... but I don't think it's anywhere near were it needs to be to be a users main environment. It's also buggy - I've managed to crash it several times in only hours of testing, and that just doesn't happen with KDE3.
So, I'm the one guy voting for KDE3.Specs: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (@3Ghz), G.SKILL 4GB DDR2 1066, ASUS Striker II Formula MB, Asus EN9800GTX+ Dark Knight, ABS Tagan BZ800 PS, Antec 900 Case.

I have tested KDE4 myself & yes, it's still buggy & missing many features as you mentioned.
But I think it has a bright future though.
Meanwhile, I've read that KDE has released the 9th stable version of KDE3.
So you should expect that KDE3 is now more stable than ever & full of features.

Re: KDE 4 or 3 ?
I use KDE4 almost exclusively already. Both on my Gutsy laptop and my Hardy desktop.
Any time I am in KDE3 it feels old. I'll be glad when the panel can be adjusted and when the icons in Taskbar don't look like "sprites" on my VIC-20 (or even on my Commodore 64 for you young folk hehe)

Re: KDE 4 or 3 ?
I actually saw a post here from Fintan that said the Panel size could be adjusted with the release of 4.0.2.

Re: KDE 4 or 3 ?
i've been testing kde4 since beta 1 & i have to say that 4.0.2 is quite nice. not quite where i'd like it at this point, but close.
i've begun replacing my kde3 in kde3 with kde4 apps, since one can run kde4 apps in kde3. (i've been doing this by simply uninstalling the kde3 counterparts).
but if kde4 isn't where i'd like it to be HH's release, i'll be using both kde3 & kde4.<br />

Re: KDE 4 or 3 ?
I'm in the "Wait and see" group. I have to keep a stable system on my desktop, but I do have KDE4 installed. I boot into it whenever I see updates for it, to see how it is progressing. This is with GG. I don't have KDE4 installed on my laptop, but do have HH. When I am satisfied with KDE4's usability, I will install it on the laptop. When I am satisfied with HH's usability, I will upgrade the desktop.

Re: KDE 4 or 3 ?
Hmm.. I am in the kde4 only group as far as HH is concerned.
I have a nice and sturdy GG and a very stable mepis 7.0 to fall back on if needed, but 90% of my working time I try to spend on HH/kde4. Ever since release of kde4.0.
Yes, there are quirks but I can live with that. I remember the days of kde2 (suse 5.0??) which was fun but kept me away from using linux (hated gnome) as a main OS for years.
A few things bug me in the kubuntu versions though. HH is different tan GG and apparently the alpha kde4 is a completely different animal again.
No kross??=no suoperkaramba and other widgets
No search toolbar in konqueror kde4
I think that this is a kubuntu thing though.
Yet, the strides that kde4 has made since release are astounding and I agree with moon.
The birth process is exciting.

Having said that I dread the day when I finally put this machine (five+ years of service) into the server fold and have to install a Kubuntu on a new and shiny multicore (orgasm?) machine with a strange video card and blu-ray cd player/writer.
Edit: oh yes installing plasmoids seems to be a pain.
If anybody wants/can help have a look here:

Re: KDE 4 or 3 ?
I'm quite happy with HH. It is the first rendition of Ubuntu to not give me any grief on my (multicore) laptop. It is also the first to work perfectly on my machine in terms of hardware, without messing with a dsdt. KDE4 is a treat, a mite buggy still, but to be expected with the given development time. The alphas are incredibly stable for me. As noted, there is much work still devoted to KDE3.
BTW, the location bar in the new konqueror doubles as a search bar, just need to pick a default search engine in preferences. You can add another location bar if desired to use as a search bar.
