Skype no longer working after last update SOLVED

Running 8.04 RC3. Stable enough to use it for production. Everything duplicated on separate hard drive, just to be safe.

After the update today (02/20/08) Skype has disappeared from the OS. No files, no icons. Nothing!

Re-installation does not work because there is no application in the repository. to install.

Kubuntu 7.10 is unaffected, of course. Skype continues to work there.

Anyone else with this problem? Bug?

I just updated HH. Skype is still present

    Do you have medibuntu installed?
    http://www.medibuntu.org/

    How did you install it?
HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
    4 GB Ram
    Kubuntu 18.10

Re: Skype no longer working after last update

      Thank you for your guidance.
After the last update I received the following errors:

      Synaptic:
Package skype has no available version, but exists in the database.
This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and never uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents of sources.list

      Adept:
Shows Skype but does not even allow it to be selected for installation.

Followed your hint and added Medibuntu to the repositories. Skype installed in Adept and Synaptic.
      However, it does not load.

      Something is still fishy.

Re: Skype no longer working after last update SOLVED

Thank you, Fintan, for putting me on the right track.

I resolved the problem. Skype runs for 'root' . I used the "Run Command . . ." and the option 'run as different user'.
        Now it starts.
Just now chatting on it. Still need to test the phone. It will work because it worked before in 8.04 and 7.10.

        thanks again.
