Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Here's what I just found out. After I installed the flashplugin-nonfree package, and restarted FF3, all those sites now show the images perfectly. It has something to do with flash -- I dunno exactly what.

Have to say, that is quite the 'illuminating' explanation!

You did get the (intended) pun - flash and illuminating - yes?

Suplero, thanks for checking the website.
As I said, the site with ALL pictures displays fine in FF2 and now also in Konqueror.
But still not in FF3 even after the most recent update.

I'll contact the FF people. Maybe they know something we here do not know.

I tried reinstalling FF2 with ubuntuzilla and got this:

                sudo dpkg -L firefox |grep 'firefox/plugins$'
Failed to determine plugin path. Exiting.
                Process returned code 1

I guess this has to do with the fact that FF2 isn't there anymore.

I couldn't find anything on the ubuntuzilla page.

I could install it manually but I really do not see why that should be necessary!

EDIT: Sorry guys (and girls) I didn't mean to hijack this thread. I'll just start a new one

Re: Firefox 3.0 Beta - pictures on website not displaying.

I just did a clean install of alpha 4, and initially I had the same problem in ff3.

I played around a bit on other problems - like trying to install kde4 - and discovered that I had graphics card issues.

I have an nvidia 7300 card, and after I installed the nvidia-glx-new package, and got everything set up, now ff3 works great.

At some point I may go back to my initial install [on a different hard drive - still intact] and see if I can fix that ff3 problem the same way.

So it might be a graphics problem in HH, rather than a ff3 problem.

Further to my observations regarding black pictures: I visited a great number of websites yesterday. Many of them also had the black pictures displayed by FF3. Some showed black pictures and normal pictures on the same page.

The pages displayed well in Konqueror.

                      No Firefox 3.
                      Remove.
                      Install Firefox 2.
No Firefox will open: Just the jumping icon on the side of the mouse pointer and the hour-glass in the panel for guite a time. Then it just ... nothing.

                      Writing this in Konqeror.
