New Log in Screen this morning in KDE4

Got this mornings dowloads and seems we have a new 'log in' screen, the blue one with splashes on it and the sign in is now translucent. (Well it might have happened yesterday, not sure.
Just for your info, I am also running KDE4 under OpenSuse, and its quite interesting to see the difference between the two distro's implementation of KDE4.
The taskbar in Suse is a mite smaller (and so are the icons and text!) also I have been able to get 'ktux' screensaver working in OpenSuse but can't get it installed in Kubuntu as says it will break packages.

Its really quite interesting to see what works in one, but not in the other!

I think that the Kubuntu one is more stable though.

Do you have the kde4 kdm installed? If so where on gutsy hardy or the pure kde4 install from the live gutsy kde4 cd?

I am sure it is interesting but I am not going back to suse. Not becuase of the novel-MS deal but because I just hate its package manager. What is interesting is that kubuntu and open suse seem to be the only big "free" distros that are actually implementing kde4 at this early stage.
Mepis is waiting, respectively it is very difficult.
For mandriva you have to upgrade to the commercial version.
On Pclinux it being based on mandriva and having looked at their forum it doesn't seem to be as easy as with kubuntu either.

so for me kubuntu rules in this aspect.

Edit: I just did the update and lo and behold the most ugly peace of login / background I have ever come accros!!!!!! What are all those blue (I like blue) bubbles and swashes doing there? What did they have for breakfast? can I have some too ?

The transparency is a nice touch but to ruin it with this piece of.... background whatever. Sorry if I step on somebodies "creative" feet and I do sincerely hope that this is not the default HH look.
I know, I know: taste is....blah, blah. But still.

The worst part is I can't change it in the kde3.5.8 system settings-> log in manager->background as the "apply" button seems to be deactivated on my alpha 2 upgraded to today. On top of all that booting into kde3.5.8 the interim (loading) screen shows me a part of my kde4 desktop, and disengaged bits and pieces of my kde3.5.8 desktop.

If I am ranting so be it. But this deffinately is not a step forward!

Fintan, this particular background is one of the wallpapers that came with KDE4 (if you look in the wallpapers in right click desktop, so you could in theory go the whole hog and not only have it when you log in but on your desktop too!

Yes, well about my crazy 'trying them both' I agree, normally I wouldn't have Suse up and running ( I hate the green for a start!) but just thought that as these two were making KDE4 available it would be rather interesting to see what was different and compare them. Some stuff is available in Suse that isn't in Kubuntu and vice versa. I do like the Suse 'one click' install idea, and when I have used it it works well.

I have all the desktop features working in both, but I confess this was easier in Kubuntu than Suse.

I know, it is called emotion. They should have called it Emotional mess

As for putting it on my desktop, no thanks. I have a nice moon landscape background (called dreamlandB) which is calming and inspiring (at least for me)

I still want to know what they had for breakfast
