How come OpenOffice has been broken for such a long time, cannot download it so that it works??

Which version are you trying to install? It should be there by default. You should have openoffice.org-kde installed.
Try using synaptic instead of the not so "adept" adept. Or do:
Code:sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-kde
Mine is working fine on hardy.HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
4 GB Ram

Ah, the 64bit version.....sorry I can't help there. still stuck on a prehistoric 32bit. sorry
Maybe if you changed the tilte to "openoffice on 64 bit" or something similar the many 64 bitters out there could give you some more useful adviceHP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)

OOO is now fixed in Kubuntu Hardy 64bit for me 8)
