I had the same problem, and even when my flash is installed and was working day before - sometimes it's just doesn't want to fire up. It's strange. What I am doing then is sudo aptitude purge flash or sudo aptitude purge flashplugin-nonfree. Than just to be sure sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree. After completley removing it and all components I am installing it again by sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree, and usually everything works OK.
