I'm running Kubuntu 8.04 on my desktop with KDE4. I have a soundblaster Live 24 sound card with a 5.1 speaker set. Over the last few days I've struggled with getting 5.1 surround working in Kubuntu.
I've had limited success in that I now can get "duplicated" sound on my rear and center speakers but only in Mplayer. Even getting that working was a complete nightmare, this is one area were, I dare to say it, Windows has an advantage over linux. In Windows all you do is specify in the sounds settings applet that you have a 5.1 speaker set and the OS handles the rest.
Can something simular happen for us or is this a change that would have to be made by the ALSA project??
