Just thought I would throw this tidbit out to all.
I have a used many different flavors of Linux in the past and configured SAMBA a number of times.
Was cursing under my breath at Kubuntu that I couldn't get it working. Then I looked at the logs.
You see I bought a new laptop and I got cute with the computer name when I installed kubuntu. Wanted it to be myname-laptop.
The only problem is that this has to be truncated in SAMBA. This was keeping me from connecting both with shares and CUPS.
Changed the name to something shorter and voila!! All my windows shares and printers burst forth.
Don't know if this will help anyone else but it might prevent all the frustration I experienced.
