Atheros at5007eg/ndiswrapper/amd64 dead end, please pull me out

    Hello,

I have tried both the Kubuntu 8.04 with kde3 and 4 on amd64 (toshiba satellite). Here is what I did on each installation (I tired kde4 first and gave up due to tray bugs).

    1. I have blacklisted ath_pci
    2 Downloaded the windows driver
    3. Used the ndiswrapper to install the driver - net5221,inf
    4. I included the ndiswrapper to be loaded on each boot event and it is loaded just fine on each boot up.

I use kwifimanager to look for networks. A couple of times I could see the networks around me, and I even was able to switch to my wifi linksys router. However, I could never establish a connection, even though the iwconfig showed rx and tx packets.

I am at a loss to where the problem could be. I usually use gentoo and configure my wifi in a text configuration file. I am trying kubuntu, and I don't know how to configure the network. Should I use the gui interface? What log files can help me?
I am very happy with most aspects of the kubuntu system, however, I am at a loss.

So far I have read and followed most posts on the forum as well as some .de google results. Please shove me in a right direction, even if it could actually be left.

Welcome to the club - -

I'll be getting back to this problem myself after I re-install my 64 bit system on my Compag F700

One thing you may want to try is a different wireless manager. Seems a lot of folks have had issues with KDE wireless lan manager, and instead are using an application called "WICD"

Do a google search for WICD and give it a try.

Are you sure you need the ndiswrapper?

There was some postings a couple of months ago, indicating that atheros now is giving support for most of their chips. There were some problems for some of us having these chips in kernels between ~19 and ~21.

That is - most atheros chips will just run "out of the package" when installing recent Kubuntu.
