Problems with KPPP using an USB HSDPA modem

    Hi -

I am totally new to Linux, and after a some pain I have succeded in installing my HSDPA USB modem, that is on /dev/ttyUSB0. I have configured KPPP and everything seems to work: I get this messages on the log:

    ATX3
    OK
    AT+CGDCONT=1,"ip","datacard.tre.it"
    OK
    ATM1L1
    OK
    ATDT*99#
    CONNECT

at this point nothing else happens: in the status bar of the log there is a message that reads "Starting PPPD" (or something like that, I have installed the Italian version), and after a while I get a message reading "Starting the PPPD interface timed out" (still not sure it is the exact message in English). Any idea? I don't want to get back to Windows, but I do need to be online!!!

Based on the log message in your post, 'CONNECT' would indicate that it made a connection with the ISP, but it didn't authenticate. Check your DNS IP's if the ISP issued you any. Also go through your authentication features. From the looks of it, the actual modem driver setup is working correctly.
