{Solved} Got E220 Hyawe working but no internet.

    Hello,
    My first post here.
After having total nightmare with my E220 G3 HPSDA modem for all day. I got finally KPPP and WVDIAL working but i have no internet at all. When i try with Conquer for example "www.ati.com", i see AMD logo in front of adress but page wouldn't load and both (kppp and wvdial) don't show any activity.
KNetworkmanager does not show any connections at all. Checked /etc/hosts, looks ok. Some kind routing problem i have?
Sorry to post here, i'm hoping advise from experts. Too tired, after messing around with my modem all day.

    Meh, forgot screenie: http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/3215/snapshot1gx8.png

First, glad to hear you straightened out your problem. Good job. Second, welcome to the Kubuntu Forums.

You may wish to take a quick look at using kppp. I think your mistake was thinking that KNetworkmanager was necessary for using your dial-up modem.

Thanks Snowhog, or should i call you to Tux Holmes. :P Just joking.
I will take a look, how to use KPPP. I was thinking that Knetworkmanager will take care of all my connections, my mistake.
Getting together information bits and pices after 5 years break does not seem so easy. A lot of Google abusing needed to be done.

Well, a five year hiatus is a while, but hey, like riding a bicycle, it will start coming back to you faster than you think. Given your statement, this isn't your fist foray into Linux, yes? What did you start with?

Re: {Solved} Got E220 Hyawe working but no internet.

It was year 1998 or 1999, when i tried first time Linux and it was Mandrake Linux. Tried Red Hat as well but it wasn't that newb friendly as Mandrake. Later my friend told me that Debian is cool thing and it was, i fell in love instantly. Thanks to apt-get, minimal install CD and rest from internet, no need leetch 3-4 CD's to install Linux. Bit later i saw somewhere in the internet that Red Hat implimented that feature as well, obiously, because it is so good.
Anyways as i hate command prompt/console (hey, here's invention around for years called mouse) i used mostly Win95/98 and later after Billware released SP2 for XP, i switched to WinXP and been using since. Now with release Hastalla Vista Beibe (what a dumb name, windows vista, never going use it) i stared thinking, it's time check out what is going on in Linux world. And surprise, surprise, Ubuntu and Kubuntu are very beginner friendly. Still certain things can be done only from console but i can live with that. Not that mutch, as used to be. Wine is working quite well, so i don't need Windows any more.
But in 1 area Linux been unbeatable for years to me, i really don't remeber how many firewalls i installed. Started with single bootable floppy firewall (Don't remeber anymore, how it was called), later Klark Connect Linux, witch was easy to set up and configure. Red Hat based but it had apt-get feature before Red Hat.
So, even i been using mostly windows for years, couldn't stay away from Linux entirely.
I just happend to love computer games and been playng games since ZX Spectrum and C64, my reason use windows. Yes, i'm old school, started with 8 bit computers. Seen very first IBM PC and Apple Mac 1 and all development thru 20+ years. It is facinating, what happend to computers during that time. Seen countless amout of bugs and design flaws and they always make me chukle.
Still clearly remeber race for first 1Ghz CPU. When Intel overclocked P3 800 to 1.13 Ghz, to compete with 1 Ghz Athlon. They added monster heat sink with 2 fans and still had call it back, due over heating unstability. That made my day then, been using AMD processors since 386SX40.
