    Reluctant modem connection

I'm using Hardy LTS with all the latest updates applied.

Around 2 out of 3 times when I boot up, my ADSL modem is not detected, though it is online and ready. Has anyone any idea what I can do.

    I've tried:
    sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
which is what I use to swap networks on my laptop, but it doesn't work with this.

What makes it really annoying is that XP (my dual boot) never has a problem!

I am going to move this post to the Hardy Networking forum, where you might have better luck getting an answer. BTW Kubuntu Hardy is NOT an LTS edition because of all the rapid changes taking place in KDE. This shouldn't worry you, though, because LTS is really intended for users with either server farms or many, many desktops. Us mere mortals, find that (unless we're using very obsolete equipment) upgrading from edition to edition is a better plan.

      Thanks for you help.

My modem connection has suddenly come good on both my machines since I did the last upgrade.
It looks like the problem was a bug.
