After days of screwing around with the new restricted drivers, I have given up and gone back to ndiswrapper. There seems to be some intermittent success with b43, b43legacy, but no joy for me and I did a lot of googling and tried a lot of different things. If you search, you will find a lot of posts from me helping Broadcom users. I have several and have done this many times. IANAP or an expert, just an intermediate user, but after days of effort, I gave up and went back to ndiswrapper and was running in 5 minutes. The best instructions I have found are still here:

Also, it seems that the abysmal knetwork-manager/network-manager is still the standard kde network manager. I suggest immediately replacing it with wicd. More information can be found here
http://wicd.sourceforge.net/download.php
There is a bit of fiddling to get the icon in the tray, but that bit of fiddling will be paid back many times over in time not spent fooling with knm/nm.
I don't wish to debate the issue or spar with any restricted manager/network manager fanboys and girls. If you disagree, start your own thread. I will be happy to respond to folks with questions about this information if there are any.
