I have upgraded my IBM Thinkpad Z61m to 8.04 from 7.10. It has a PRO/Wireless 3945ABG which no longer starts when the machine boots. I have to run KWiFiManager after the system has booted. It prods the WiFi into connecting. Also since the upgrade the WiFi LED no longer flashes. Does anyone know if the iwl3945 driver is responsible and if downgrading it will make my WiFi work again?

Re: WiFi doesn't start after upgrade to 8.04
I have exactly the same wireless card on an HP Laptop and I can confirm that the LED is not working properly anymore after upgrade to Hardy. I can however still connect through the Wifi. In Gutsy everything was working by the book.
My LED was supposed to turn from orange to blue and now stays on orange without any blinking at all.

Re: WiFi doesn't start after upgrade to 8.04
You might try loading linux-backports-modules-hardy-generic this makes my LED work but the connection still doesn't work at boot time. After getting a working connection it still randomly drops. The iwl3945 v1.2.25 driver is definitely inferior to the ipw3945 which it replaced. This has been a known problem for over a month but still it made it into 8.04

Re: WiFi doesn't start after upgrade to 8.04
Well, this certainly fixed my problem...What can I say... million thanks.
I wish there was a way I could know what to load and what not for my configuration. It seems to change all the time.

Re: WiFi doesn't start after upgrade to 8.04
To get automatic network connection at boot; in the file /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules comment out the line the looks like:
SUBSYSTEM=="net", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTRS{address}=="...", ATTR{type}=="1", NAME="eth1"
Afer a reboot the system creates a new entry with NAME="wlan0". Now all you have to do is explain the name change to all the other packages that are still looking for eth1.
In /etc/wifi-radar.conf change the interface = eth1 line to interface = wlan0
Knetworkmanger still doesn't register the existance of any wifi interfaces, but then it never did.
Wicd did not work for me (it was still looking to eth1 even though it came from wicd's hardy extras repository)

Re: WiFi doesn't start after upgrade to 8.04
my wifi connects at boot just fine. I have a question did u upgrade or fresh install 8.04? Mine is a fresh install and except the light issue everithing performs as with 7.10.
The system has set the connection as wlan0 from the beginning.

Re: WiFi doesn't start after upgrade to 8.04
Just wanted to clarify if it was an Adept upgrade or upgrade through fresh install. May I suggest trying a clean one?
BTW. Do you know what the addition of the linux-backports modules does? As far as I can see it is still using the iwl3945 driver...so what difference did it make?
And the LED is still not behaving quite right as it is blue now (on) but I remember that it was blinking before as the data was transferred. ...No I am not picky just informing accurately...
